As the election date was set Ryan Henson sent a message to the residents of Bedford and Kempston.
As you will have seen and heard, we are heading for a snap General Election in December.
The first December election since 1923, the outcome of this historic election will shape our great country for many years to come. The winner of the Bedford and Kempston constituency, one of the most marginal of all the 650 being contested, will decide who – out of Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn – will walk into 10 Downing Street as Prime Minister in just 6 weeks’ time.
You will know that I have always tried to be as candid as possible in setting out my position. I voted to leave the EU. And I did not want an election to happen until we had left the EU, thus fulfilling the promise politicians of every party, made to every person, Leave or Remain, who participated in the 2016 EU Referendum.
But the deliberate, unacceptable, and frankly – undemocratic blocking tactics of Labour MPs, has meant the Prime Minister has had no other choice but to seek a new Parliamentary majority for passing the Deal he has struck, and for keeping our democratic promise to take the UK out of the EU.
I know many readers of this will be with me when I say that I believe we owe it to everyone in our great country to get this stalemate resolved.
I know many readers of this will support me when I say that I believe we owe it to everyone in Bedford and Kempston (the place I am proud to call my home) to defeat our Brexit-blocking, Corbyn-supporting, do-nothing Labour MP, who has failed to be our voice in Parliament since 2017.
Because it will be the poorest and most vulnerable who will suffer most from a Corbyn Government. All who are aspirational, all who work hard and do the right thing, will be most at risk from this backward-looking, enterprise-destroying, far-left Labour party.
And as for Brexit – forget about it if Labour win again in Bedford and Kempston.
I know many reading this are rightly angry at what has happened in Westminster since 2016. You should be. I am too.
Some will be tempted to lend their support to the Liberal Democrats, or to the Brexit Party.
But the truth is this. Here in Bedford and Kempston, it will be a straight contest between Labour and the Conservatives. Jeremy Corbyn’s candidate – who has blocked Brexit at every turn - or me, standing for the Conservatives – and committed to getting Brexit done so that we can unite our town, unite our country, and move forward together.
A vote for anyone else will let Labour win, and Jeremy Corbyn will spend Christmas in Downing Street as Prime Minister.
So for the next 6 weeks I will be doing what I have been doing for the past 18 months. I will be working 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, in rain, sleet, or snow, campaigning with all my heart, to persuade you, your family, and the people of Bedford and Kempston to lend me their support on polling day.
I will be vastly outnumbered by Labour activists and their supporters from London. But I will not be out-fought, nor will I be out-worked.
I am proud to be a working class, comprehensive school educated Tory, and together with anyone reading this who wants to change our town and our country for the better, I believe we can offer the positive change Bedford and Kempston needs and deserves as we prepare to enter the 2020s.
This election will shape our country for years to come. If you want to be a part of it, if you would like to support my campaign please contact me! – [email protected]
Thank you for reading this and I look forward to the campaign to come! ??????
Ryan Henson
Conservative MP Candidate for Bedford and Kempston
