Bedford Borough will be receiving just over £2.3 million from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities to deliver projects proposed in the UK’s Shared Prosperity Investment Plan.
The £2.6 billion UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) forms a central part of the Governments “levelling up agenda” and was created to help “level up” the community through regenerating high streets and empowering local leaders and communities to reverse geographical inequalities.
The funding delivers on the Conservative Government’s commitment to match the previous EU funding from the European Social Fund and European Regional Development Fund.
The funding earmarked for Bedford Borough is said to help the delivery of the High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ). The scheme involves a number of projects, as per the name, aimed at rejuvenating historic High Streets like Bedford from tired and dreary to a place the community can be proud of.
After hearing many residents talk of how neglected and disappointing the Town Centre is, this extra funding and continued leadership from the Government and Historic England is a welcome sight.
Ultimately, Bedford’s local Conservatives want the Town to be a more desirable place to live and work, a thriving community hub for local residents from all ends of the political or socio-economic scale can be proud of.
We understand how much potential there is in Bedford’s Town Centre and funding like this will continue to help Bedford realise that potential.
